The Apollo Theater was thick, not only with people, but with the anticipation of the upcoming performances. I felt the anticipation as people buzzed with glee while looking for their seats, and jouking to the bass-line of “Let’s Get it On” and “Dirty Diana.” I stepped out on stage to rip it…..silence. I looked onto the audience, it was a cloud of fog with hundreds of faint faces buried within it. That’s when the band played the first 5 notes and my voice filled the room with the melody of “This Woman’s Work.” The crowed roared with excitement and I truly witnessed just how much power and ability the hands of music could form human clay into whatever it so chooses.
